Two of Marygrove College’s graduate programs, one in human resource management and one in education, have been recognized as outstanding by Affordable Colleges Online in its 2017 national ranking of graduate programs across the country.

Marygrove's Master of Arts in Human Resource Management program is ranked in the Top 15 of Affordable College’s list of Best Online Human Resources Degrees. The ranking is based on factors including cost, financial aid availability, flexible scheduling and access to academic counseling, internships, and career counseling.

The college's Master in the Art of Teaching program with a Focus on Elementary Reading and Literacy ranked 23rd on the organization’s 2017 list of Most Affordable Colleges.

“We’re pleased that Affordable Colleges Online has recognized both programs because it speaks equally to the quality of the programs and their affordability,” said Dr. Elizabeth Burns, Marygrove president. “As Marygrove transitions to a curriculum that is made up entirely of graduate-level courses, this ranking is an affirmation by an independent outside agency that our graduate students are receiving a quality education as they pursue their advanced degree.”

In awarding the ranking to the Human Resource Management course, Affordable Colleges Online said, “Using our extensive methodology, we’ve looked at the online human resources degree programs across the country – from associate programs to doctoral degrees – and ranked them on a variety of scoring metrics.

“Online education is centered around the idea that students should be able to achieve their educational goals on their own timeline, while maintaining their daily lives. It is important to make sure that courses are available on a part-time or full-time basis, day and night, to suit the changing schedules of students working jobs and taking care of families.”

In recognizing Marygrove’s Master in the Art of Teaching Program with a Focus on Elementary Reading and Literacy, Affordable Colleges Online said, “This ranking is designed to help people interested in literacy education find an accredited program they can afford, focusing both on low tuition costs and the optimal return on investment.”

On its website,, the organization said, “Literary education is a field in which individuals learn how to improve the reading, writing, and analytic skills of their students. Pursuing a graduate degree in literary education may be particularly appealing to students with an undergrad degree in English or teachers looking for a specialty. An online master’s degree is an affordable option that delivers credentials and skills. Master’s students will learn educational techniques for sharpening writing skills, how to help students meet their reading needs in subjects such as science, which approaches work best for a diverse set of children, and how to assist students in meeting the standards for their age and grade.”

Affordable Colleges Online creates in-depth resources that address topics, questions and concerns related to higher education with an eye on affordability and accreditation. Resources include comprehensive guidebooks, student interviews, user-friendly search tools, federal datasets and other materials created and vetted by experts in their fields.
