DV FLYER 2013_9_12_13To commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Marygrove is hosting “Men Can Stop Intimate Partner Violence!” This panel discussion will take place in the Main Dining Room at Marygrove College on October 14 from 6-8 p.m.

This year we will provide action steps to stop partner violence with the help of a diverse panel of male advocates, survivors and professionals including:

  • Dr. Galen Duncan, Senior Director of Player Development for the Detroit Lions
  • Mr. Ken Coleman, Hospital Director of Community and Youth Programs at St. John Hospital and member of Omega Psi Phi
  • Mr. Kahn Davison, published author and survivor of childhood domestic violence
  • Mr. Victor Walker, poet and Director of Programs at AFFIRMATIONS

Panelists Dr. Galen Duncan and Nate Burleson will also be signing autographs and giving away Detroit Lions paraphernalia.

Throughout October there will be additional activities leading up to the event at Marygrove:

A Purple Ribbon Campaign
This event is sponsored by NETWORK and will begin on Oct. 1, 2013. Anyone interested can pick up a ribbon in the Social Work Department's Michelle Ventour Resource Room.

The Marygrove College Clothesline Project
This project features T-shirts that were designed by Marygrove students and members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Detroit Alumni Chapter) in recognition of violence against women. View the display in the MG Library across from the Circulation Desk.

A Domestic Violence Dinner Table Display
Stop by this display in the Main Dining Room on the First floor of the Madame Cadillac Building and reflect on how domestic violence affects everyone. Take a purple ribbon and wear it for the rest of the month; learn the statistics and read the poems placed on the table by Marygrove students.

We hope that you will plan to join us, and invite others to attend. All activities are free and open to the public.
